Hello! After summer I am planning on traveling alot! I wanna visit America, but since I don't really know alot about the country, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on good places to go to and stay at that are not too expensive. Also, if I decide to stay for a really long time, I might wanna work for some money. Any ideas what kind of jobs you can get really fast for a short period of time?
any info would help ;D

Oh I have got a lot of fave places and great travel websites but first, if you're thinking of earning any money, you want to pop to the american embassy/website and find out how to get a visa my sweet!

I could be your travel guide! I s'pose the key questions to get us going is where do you want to go, what do you want to see and do? For music, you can't beat LA! There are so many great music venues you can go listen to amazing live music every night of the week! That's what I do!

hahaha that would be awesome Kate I would love love to see some music while I am there (maybe even play some!). I am thinking about LA but I hear its really expensive. As I mentioned before, I would like to stay for as long as I can, and I don't have THAT much cash. I talked with Esra abit about staying a few hours away from New york in Massachusets. Honestly I don't think I could stay in a large city for too long... I would probably get stressed out. I also would love to see parts of the country that are not just filled with tourists....see towns that are filled with people who just live everyday lives

Chris is right! It's not that expensive. LA anyway. I found NY horrendously expensive compared to the rest of the US on this last trip though. And staying a few hours out of NY?!!? Do NY - even if just for 3 - 4 days! You can't do America and not NY. But Boston is lovely too so if in MA, you have to pop in there. LA is not too bad, money wise, though I supposed it depends where you stay and how you get around. The bus is pretty easy. cheaptickets.com has spme pretty good offers on and it always gives a Ramada when you ask for W Hollywood which isn't in W Hollywood at all but is pretty cheap for the nice hotel it is and near all the bust stops. But that's maybe cos I don't like slumming it too much. I'm sure there's cheaper. Can you drive/rent a car over there or are you too young? (I know you can't drink! ) Need to know that so that I don't suggest ridiculous things next!

Since I gotta go soon I will just post fast! Kate! thanks!!!!!!!! ur awesome. The point was to live close to NYC so I could go there whenever I wanted. LA sounds more and more tempting...seriously. I am 19, 20 in a month, which means I can drive car but I don't have a drivers license...but the bus is just fine! Do they ride bikes in LA ? maybe just the weirdos... and I am not old enough to drink in the US which sucks! But I am sure I can find a way to get some drinks I would love to go there to see lots of music...maybe that should be the goal of my trip do people pay musicians who play on the street? and does the police remove you if you play?

Well.... for starters, staying in MA is not ideal for popping into NY! I am sure there are some cheap places to stay in NY that'll do just fine! Secondly, not drinking will save you lots of money! It's the one thing I find is expensive in the US, compared to everything else anyway! If you smoke, NY is expensive there too, but elsewhere is fine. However, for the non-driver.... NY is PERFECT! You'd never want to drive there anyway, and the subway is fab! (though confusing at 3am when pissed as a fart.... but you won't have to worry about that! ) Now.... how many cities are you going to do? How much travelling you up to? Cos if you're doing a few it may be worth booking a multiway flight cos it'll turn out cheaper!

NY is fabulous and I personally didn't find it that expensive, but that was a couple of years ago and I had a lot more money than I do now. It is really, really easy to get around and cheap without being able to drive. It isn't actually fun to be in a car in NY. It doesn't feel like a large city at all. Well Manhatten didn't. I loved soho and the restaurants in Little Italy are amaaaaaazing .. although if you don't like Italian food I think you might find it all disgusting lol. There is sooooooo much you can do. Being as honest as I am ....... I prefer London to New York. Now that I have experienced another part of the USA I can say that NY doesn't feel typically American, for that reason I think it is a good entry point, you can get used to the tipping culture. I don't think I will get understand that though From my own experience and just watching travel programmes and talking to people etc it seems a very difficult country to get around without driving everywhere. Everything is just so big and spread out. I'm from a place where I can walk from one side of the town to the other in just over an hour. In the USA it would take me that long to get from one side of the road to another ;D I vote for NY too and from there travel out to nearby states. You wont be able to work there, if you try you will be kicked out and probably won't be able to return. They are realllllllllllllllly strict about that sort of thing. Getting a short term job is like next to zero.

I hadn't thought it was expensive in NY before, and don't know home much it affected my judgement that I was there at the end of my trip, rather than at the beginning so had been appreciating the 'cheapness' for so long, but it was a huge shock when I got there in April! Prices comparitive to UK (More for alcohol). $11 for fags!!! FOod was more expensive too, though to be fair I was eating at more expensive places as staying with a friend who doesn't really do cheap! Best hog dogs in NY though! ;D
