Well, it was definitely worth the 4 hour drive each way to see and meet honeyhoney and get compliments from both Ben and Suzanne on my red hair as Suzanne is young enough to be my daughter with the hair color to match.
Since we already have the "Loose Boots" and "First Rodeo" CDs, we did purchase 3 t-shirts (the gray shirts hit a bit close to home to "The Birds" movie and that's why we bought 2). We've seen similar situations personally at our front yard feeders and when literally over 200 birds of all species take off at one time it is eerie.
We saw many shirts and CDs being purchased after the set and that made us very happy with the new fans of honeyhoney showing their appreciation of GREAT music and a GREAT show.
It was a shame that Ben and Suzanne were sandwiched in between the reggae bands and were not totally appreciated. Suzanne did hold it together nicely as a spider came down off the lights and landed on her arm while she was performing. Nothing like getting only 35 minutes onstage. Then being told "you can play 2 more songs" and then right after Ben was told that it was changed to "you can play 1 more song and that's it."
Thanks Ben and Suzanne for coming out to the Merch tent and signing autographs and taking photos with us and the other happy fans. The photos turned out SUPER!!!!
I'm glad Joanne was able to make you laugh out loud with her comments about me singing along to "Thursday Night".
I specifically bought a Milwaukee Journal newspaper on Friday 7/3, so I could read a wonderful review. Some things never change, not only did the paper combine several days worth of shows into 1 or 2 paragraphs each, they even managed to be disrespectful to Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson comparing them to Mt. Rushmore.
When I ran my music newspaper, it was always positive and if show or performer was not up to snuff, then I just didn't find room to put a preview/review/interview in. The old Thumper theory, "If you can't say something nice ... don't say anything at all."
The reviews also confirmed my old theory that music critics are just frustrated musicians that never made it or never tried to make it and went the easy route of critiquing the TRUE musicians.
On a happier note, I've been rearranging the CD racks at the local Best Buy Store by placing the "First Rodeo" CD in key locations on the end of the aisles facing the store entrance as well as taking several H spaces in the CD racks.
Did the same with Rocco's "Mercy" CD but purchased the only "I Trust You To Kill Me" CD for my collection to go along with the DVD which the Best Buy website said they didn't carry but I found it there .... go figure.
Can't guarantee that we'll make it to the Varsity Theatre in the Twin Cities on July 12th, but if not we'll be there in spirit and be playing your CDs at home on Sunday night.
Looking forward to seeing you soon and hearing a much longer show,
Judy (Jubal)
