When requesting your favorite Ironworks Music track on a radio station, here are some valuable radio rules to live by!
POSITIVE FEEDBACK
If you hear the song played on your local station, call them up to thank them for playing it or even ask them questions about it. This helps even more than the request itself because it shows you were listening.
PERSONALIZE ALL REQUESTS
Find out what DJ is working at the time and request direction to them. Whether emailing or calling mention the DJ’s name, something that happened at their station or in your community or something you heard the DJ say, Make sure they know you are a real listener!
MAKE SURE YOU’RE LISTENING
There might be special programming going on that would make your request of a current song inappropriate (such as a retro hour).
CALLING IS BETTER
PHONE CALLS are so much more important than email requests. When at all possible, use the phone to call your local stations to request songs. Email Requests or use the Online Requesting Forms ONLY if you absolutely can’t phone them in.
LOCALS ONLY
Stick to the stations in your LOCAL LISTENING AREA or the stations that BROADCAST ONLINE. If you can “Listen Online” they expect to get requests from all over the world so it’s ok, just be careful that you really listen to them if you are going to request there. We want to keep it honest. Radio Stations have caller ID they can tell when you’re not calling from their listening area.
DONT GET FRUSTRATED
For example, when requesting Billy Boy On Poison's "On My Way” or honeyhoney's "Black Crows" on a station that hasn’t officially added it yet, understand that it might take a few weeks for your station to add it to their playlist. Try to be patient and polite at all times and eventually your positive input will help encourage them to play the song. If you’ve heard it on another station in another city tell the DJ about your experience hearing the song on the other station.
BE SPECIFIC
When you request, don’t just say, “I love Rocco DeLuca!!” Focus only on the song you want to hear like “Open Pages” and tell them why it’s a great song. In their mind, the artist is secondary. The song itself is what they are interested in hearing feedback about.
JUST BE YOU
Try not to use fan related email accounts. It’s better to send requests from your real name or a generic email address so that you don’t sound like you are part of the street team or even just a big fan.
And above all… NEVER EVER EVER mention that you are a part of the Team!!
DON’T OVER DO IT
Do not EVER mass mail your requests to more than one station at a time. This is a sure way to sabotage our requesting efforts!! Don’t email the same DJ more than a couple times week. You can call more than this…but don’t email more than 2-3 times per week.
LASTLY
Thank you for all your love & support. Keep the music playing & turn it up!
